1. About BITS BioCyTiH Foundation:

The BITS BioCyTiH Foundation (BBF) is a Section 8 non-profit company hosted by BITS Pilani under the National Mission of Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) of Government of India (GoI). The mandate of the Foundation is to create a platform that foster research, innovation, skill development and training in the interdisciplinary translational area of Bio-Cyber-Physical Systems (Bio-CPS) through mentoring and nurturing entrepreneurs, and industry-academia collaborations to bring cutting edge technology and products to the market.

2. Purpose of Prof. G.N. Ramachandran Student Fellowship

Prof. G.N. Ramachandran Student Fellowship is a UG & PG Fellowship program under the Research and Technology development arm of BBF to create a new talent pool in the domain of Bio-Cyber physical systems at the interface of Science, Engineering and Technology. The fellowship drives to develop solutions in the field of healthcare diagnostics, agriculture, environment and water related to specific focus areas of societal needs including industry requirements.

3. Focus Areas & Technology Domain:

The Bio-CPS program aims at supporting young innovators developing prototype/ products / technologies using IoT, sensors, biosensors, devices, machine learning, blockchain, quantum domain and data security to address the problems / challenges in one of the following focus areas;

• Healthcare

• Agriculture

• Water

• Environment

4. Opportunity

5. Program Offerings:

• Tailored mentoring and periodic review to help growth of innovative ideas into viable solutions.

• Access to the state-of-the art R&D laboratory facilities of BBF

• Opportunity to participate in the events of BBF.

• Guidance on IP, prototype development, validation and regulatory

6. Financial assistance:

• UG Fellowship: assistance of Rs. 10,000 per month plus contingency of Rs. 15,000 (for hostel and consumables) for 6 months.

• PG Fellowship: assistance of Rs. 12,400 per month plus contingency of Rs. 20,000 per student (for hostel and consumables) for 6 months.

• Potential IP may be considered for additional support.

7. Eligibility Criteria:

• Ideal candidate for the UG fellowship will be a full-time final year student of four-year degree program in the field of CS, EEE, Mechanical, Biomedical, Biotech, Chemical etc. from a recognized reputed institute in India.

• Ideal candidate for the PG fellowship will be a full time first year student of Master of Engineering in the field of CS, EEE, Mechanical, Biomedical, Biotech, Chemical etc. or pharma or final year M.Sc. (Physics, Chemistry, life sciences, inter-disciplinary) and MBBS from a recognized reputed institute in India.

• Qualifying CGPA for UG & PG candidates is 7.5 or equivalent till immediate previous semester. In specific cases, candidates who have developed a prototype may be eligible for fellowship consideration.

• Students who are selected for an award at the time of joining fellowship must not be receiving any scholarship/grant/ or fellowship from any other funding sources.

• Only applications complete in all respects will be considered for screening and selection.

• Valid proof of current affiliation with the institute (From Registrar/ Head of Institution).

8. Application Process:

• The candidate has to identify mentor from the mentor list <Annexure 1> and get a consent letter with concept note (objective, activity, major milestone, output indicators such as IP, prototype, algorithm, publication etc.) not more than 2 pages

• Only one application will be accepted from the candidate.

9. Application deadline

• The application deadline for Prof. G.N. Ramachandran Student Fellowship is 15th June 2024

• Only shortlisted UG&PG fellows will be informed and called for the interview.

• Screening of eligible applications will be based on parameters; including but not limited to; technical feasibility, innovation, novelty, uniqueness, competitive advantage, clarity of projected milestones and scalability potential.
